Reconstructed pre-reservoir topography in DEM format used in the dissertation:

A View from the Bottomlands: Physical and Social Landscapes and Late Prehistoric Mound Centers in the Northern Caddo Area

by

These files represent Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) of four Oklahoma reservoirs 'corrected' for pre-reservoir topography:

Grand Lake O' the Cherokees
Fort Gibson Lake
Robert S. Kerr Lake
Eufala Lake

About the files:

These GeoTiff files were exported from Idrisi raster format, Idrisi Kilimanjaro edition. All are georeferenced in UTM 15N, NAD 83. Each file was created by georeferencing topographic maps made before reservoir impoundments, digitizing topographic lines on-screen, interpolating elevations, and overlaying the new elevations onto existing USGS 30 m DEM layers. The results of these topographic corrections appear adequate for purposes of the analyses conducted in this dissertation. Other researchers are cautioned to check the reservoir corrections carefully before employing them for other purposes.

You can read more about how these files were created and used by downloading Chapter 5 of the dissertation.

To download the DEMs:

Each DEM consists of two files, a .TIF file with the topographic data, and a .TFW file with the georeferencing information. You will need both files (and GIS software!) to use these DEMs. Right-click the links below and select "save as". Be cautioned that the .TIF files are quite large.
