Another way to look at demographics: plotting age at death against year of death. Looking only at the the ages over 50, a general increase in maximum life span is evident. This mirrors national demographic trends, and is somewhat comforting to see in a local population. Looking at the ages under 50, a clear trend is evident in increasing ages through time: each year the average age of individuals interred at Evergreen increases. After 1950, there are no interments in this sample younger than about 50 years old. This is probably a natural demographic shift in cemeteries as the grounds fill up. As family plots begin to run out of room, sons and daughters find new cemeteries for their own families, and the only people buried in the old cemetery are the spouses or relatives who have more connection to the older generations. Note that this is a small sample, but it does seem to be representataive of the cemetery population as a whole. |
