December 2011-present: Served on the Board of Directors of the Historic Preservation Alliance of Arkansas.
October 2010-July 2014: Appointed by Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe to serve on the State Review Committee for Historic Preservation, charged with the review of National Register nominations and nomination appeals and to provide general advice and professional recommendations to the State Historic Preservation Officer.
March 2010-present: served as an Associate Editor for Historical Archaeology, the journal for the Society for Historical Archaeology.
January 2010-present: served as the chair of the Academic and Professional Training Committee for the Society for Historical Archaeology; served as chair of the Society for Historical Archaeology Student Paper Prize Subcommittee (January 2008-present).
March 2008-March 2014: served on the Board of Trustees of the Arkansas Historical Association; served as the chair of the Walter L. Brown County and Local Journal Award, 2008-2009; served as the AHA Conference Committee chair, 2010-2014.
September 2007-October 2012: appointed by Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe to the Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission, a body that is to plan, develop, and carry out programs and activities appropriate to commemorate the sesquicentennial of the Civil War era and encourage the development of programs that ensure the commemoration results in an inclusive, positive legacy and has long-term public benefits; served as Vice-chairman of the commission, 2008-present.
January 2008-January 2009: served on a special editorial task force to make recommendations as to changes to the constitution and bi-laws of the Society for Historical Archaeology regarding the number, responsibilities, privileges and tenure of the SHA editor(s), appointed by SHA president Lu Ann De Cunzo.
September 2007-December 2010: Served on the Professional Development Committee for the Society for American Archeology.
July 2007-present: Served as Associate Editor for Historical Archaeology for the The SAA Archaeological Record, the newsletter for the Society for American Archaeology. Responsible for soliciting and vetting content relevant to historical archaeology, organizing thematic issues of the newsletter and overseeing the “Recent Past” column.
July 2006-July 2010: Served on the Publication Committee of the Arkansas Archeological Survey (publications include the Arkansas Archeological Survey Research Series, Report Series , Technical Series, and Popular Series), served as Chair of the Publication Committee of the Arkansas Archeological Survey (July 2008-July 2010).
January 2006-January 2011: Served on the Society for Historical Archaeology, Academic and Professional Training Committee as the Continuing Education Coordinator (responsible for coordinating the workshops conducted at the annual meetings) and as a judge on the Society for Historical Archaeology Student Paper Prize Subcommittee.
November 2003-present: Moderator and co-owner for the African-American Archaeology Listserv, an on-line group for the discussion of the archaeology of the African Diaspora in the New World associated with the African Diaspora Archaeology Network (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AAArch/).
January 2003-January 2008: Served on the Society for Historical Archaeology, Inter-Society Relations Committee (South Central Historical Archaeology Conference representative).
March 2007: Served as the Local Arrangements Chair and Co-Program Chair of the 49th Caddo Conference held in Magnolia, Arkansas.
2005-2006: Northwest Arkansas Regional Chair for Arkansas Archeology Month, March 2006, Theme: Merchants & Traders and a special commemoration: Centennial of Antiquities Act of 1906.
April 2000-January 2006: Served on the Society for Historical Archaeology, Inter-Society Relations Committee (African-American Archaeology Network/ African Diaspora Archaeology Network representative).
August 2001-December 2002: Served on the editorial board of Text, Practice, Performance, the journal of the Américo Paredes Center for Cultural Studies, University of Texas at Austin.
October 2000-October 2001: Served as graduate student representative on the Anthropology Department Graduate Steering Committee, University of Texas at Austin.
